Newaygo County is located in the western part of the lower peninsula, traversed by M-37 and M-82. The county contains 847 square miles and is the 17th largest in the state. The county seat is White Cloud. Much of the county is covered by the Manistee National Forest. Less than one-quarter of the land is agricultural and most of that is devoted to livestock. Food processing and the manufacture of aluminum extruded products are important manufacturing activities. Hunting, fishing, boating, and other outdoor recreation activities are offered in abundance.
